Energy Related Products (ErP), non-directional Lamps Regulation - Phase-out of 60 watt lightbulbs from 1st September 2011
The Lighting Industry Federation supports the ongoing legislative phase-out of inefficient light sources which continues on the 1st September 2011 with the 60W incandescent light bulb being phased out of manufacturing (it will continue to be available whilst stocks already in the distribution chain last). The lighting industry has invested a great deal in developing new energy efficient alternatives which can typically save 80% of the energy consumed by traditional light sources. Whilst it is not always fully appreciated, there is an even greater choice of light sources for the consumer now. Compact fluorescent technology has continued to improve and a wide range of lamps is available including energy efficient halogen alternatives and the latest, growing, range of LED based lightbulbs.
