German study on gas emissions from energy-saving compact fluorescent light-bulbs
The Lighting Industry Federation takes note of research relating to the safe and effective use of lighting products. As a result we are aware of a study carried out in Germany recently on gas emissions from energy efficient compact fluorescent light-bulbs, which has also been reported in the UK press. We understand there is a statement by the German Federal Environment Agency that suggests there is no risk to health and we await a statement from the UK Health Protection Agency giving their assessment.
Compact fluorescent light-bulbs supplied by our members are manufactured in accordance with Regulations and international Standards regarding safety and performance, including the Regulations that specify restrictions on the use of hazardous substances. The Lighting Industry Federation will be in a better position to comment on this German research once more information about it, and assessment of it, is available.
