LIA Training Awards presented at the Annual lunch 2012

The Lighting Industry Association held its Annual Lunch Event combined with its successful morning seminar on the 23rd May 2012 at The Draper's Hall, London.

This is a key event for Members in the LIA year and it was extremely well supported with 170 people attending the lunch and 55 attending the morning workshop.

During the Lunch two Training Award presentations took place.

Abacus Lighting Student of the Year Awards for the LIA Certificate Course held in 2011.

The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) Certificate Course provides an excellent grounding in lighting technical knowledge and is very well attended each year by students from across the supply chain e.g. lighting manufacturers, contractors, electrical distributors etc.

Each year Abacus Lighting sponsor and present the Award to the best Students from the year, comprising an overall winner and two runners up. This year the Awards were presented by Ian Smith, Sales Director of Abacus and Rune Marki LIA President.

The overall winner of the 2011 Abacus award was Daniel Green from Havells Sylavnia, who impressed the judges with his lighting solution combined with a succinct and visual presentation of his findings. Daniel was presented with the Student of the Year commemorative sword along with a cheque for £500 and a certificate.

The two runners up were Ian Slater from Whitecroft Lighting and Nick Cooke from Illuma Lighting Solutions, who both received a cheque of £250.00 and a certificate

The Holophane David Currie Student of the Year Award for the LIA Advanced Courses held over 2010 and 2011

The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) Advanced Certificate Awards provides opportunities for students who want to take the lighting technical knowledge to a higher level. The course is structured in three modules; Exterior, Interior and Light Measurement. This year the Awards were presented by Alasdair McRury, MD of Holophane and Rune Marki, LIA President.

The overall winner of the 2010 & 2011 Holophane David Currie Award was awarded to Arjun Chakravarti from Reggiani Lighting, who was presented with the Award itself plus a cheque for £1000 and LIA certificate. The two runners up were Eleanor Bell of Eleanor Bell Lighting and Tim Bowes from Whitecroft Lighting, who both received a cheque for £150 and the LIA certificate.

On behalf of the Judges, Dave Javes from Holophane said "The three finalists, Arjun, Eleanor and Tim were excellent candidates and, although presenting widely varying aspects of lighting, gave the three judges a very difficult decision to make. We felt the quality of their presentations together with their understanding and enthusiasm for of their chosen subjects was commendable. This confirms that our industry will be in good hands in the future, if these candidates are representative of the quality of people joining it.
