Lighting Industry Association Golf Day

Stourbridge Golf Club was the venue for the first Lighting Industry Association Golf day on May 4 where 32 club swinging lighting experts (5 of them called Collins) assembled under grey clouds to do battle for the brand new trophy kindly donated by Martin Bick of Assembly Solutions who also acted as guest Captain for the day.

Nine holes in the morning was an excellent limbering up exercise and the rain clouds moved away just as the first group teed off.

By lunchtime the full complement had arrived and the competition got into full swing. A highly competitive four took the first slot consisting of Rune Marki and Graham Lewis from Osram, Keven Verdun, ex LA CEO and Michael Slein from LED Group who also kindly sponsored the longest drive prize.

Bringing up the rear was the notoriously slow but much improved Steve Poole who has recently moved from the LA Laboratory to join Projection Lighting. Steve was accompanied by Bill Welch and Tim Davies from recent members Enilight.

By early afternoon the sun actually popped out for an hour and spirits were lifted. Some excellent golf was played and a great deal of banter abounded and as the last four returned to the clubhouse the heavens opened.

Dinner and prizes saw the new trophy being awarded to the young John Collins (Collins-Hart) with a splendid 38 points closely followed by Keven Verdun on 37. Longest drive went to Norman Emery and nearest the pin (sponsored by Osram) went to Tim Higgs. A notable achievement was by Peter Hunt who announced that for the first time in 30 years of atrocious golf he had, for the first time, completed 18 holes with the same ball he started with. The coveted yellow PVC golf bag which has traditionally been the 'wooden spoon' of previous golf competitions was won in swash-buckling style by Alec Fielding from Tridonic. We look forward to Alec being highly conspicuous when he uses it in the next competition.

It was excellent to see such a wide mix of members from all aspects of the industry getting together and we look forward to the next event which will be at The Oxfordshire Golf Club in September.
